The purpose of Nanjemoy Community is to provide a healthy, prosperous home for community members, built and organized to be at peace with nature; and to provide service to the greater community in which we live.

We have no single moral or religious code to follow, nor do we follow a particular leader, but rather enjoy the diverse interests of our members as they are expressed democratically.

Organizing Principles

• Nanjemoy Community is governed democratically by its members.
• For the purpose of member empowerment in self government, members have access to all organizational records, forecasts and plans.
• Nanjemoy Community holds its resources and legal property, and govern its affairs so as to promote equality, fairness and common good.
• Nanjemoy community seeks ways to live at peace with nature, with deep consideration of the ecological systems and beings of the environment.
• Members commit to practice nonviolence; to seek peaceful resolution to conflict, and to strive for honest expression of differences.
• Nanjemoy Community seeks cooperation above competition in its relations with members, as well as with the society atlarge.
• Nanjemoy Community works to share its abundance, provide aid to those in need, and to practice ethical restraint in the actions that produce abundance.
• While working to uphold the principles of this community, we strive to practice humility, and moderation, to consider our own uncertainties and weaknesses, and to have patience with others.
